North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald has today called on the new Chief Executive of STV, Simon Pitts, to give a guarantee that STV North’s regional identity will be maintained, following the announcement that the broadcaster plans to cut editorial and technical jobs across Scotland.
“STV North operates on a different licence to the central belt because the distinct character of the North of Scotland has long been recognised by government, regulators and broadcasters alike.
"Given the scale of changes in STV announced today, it’s vital that STV North maintains a strong regional identity and the capacity to go with it.
“I have therefore written today to the new Chief Executive of STV, Simon Pitts, to seek assurances that STV North will retain its regional identity, and that editorial decisions over news content will continue to be made in the North rather than in the central belt.”
