MSP calls for clarity on AWPR completion

5 September 2018

North East Labour MSP Lewis Macdonald today called on the First Minister to clarify exactly when the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route will be fully open to traffic, after contradictory information was given to parliament.

Lewis said :

“While I welcome the First Minister’s prompt clarification regarding the opening of the AWPR this weekend, questions still remain about when the road is actually going to be fully open to traffic.

“Will it be autumn, as stated in the Programme for Government document and the First Minister’s second speech; the end of the year, as she stated in her initial speech to parliament; or even late autumn, the most recent completion date confirmed by Transport Scotland?

“I have written to the First Minister asking for further clarification on the completion date of the AWPR.

“The people of the North East have already waited years for this vital infrastructure project, and the apparent confusion over when they will actually have access to the road is unacceptable.”
